I'm skeptical that long-lasting love can involve dependence, but the feeling that we can't live without someone is a sentiment we all have at one time or another.
It is only when we lose someone we love that our dependence on them is realised. I know we try to be strong and not be dependent but to love utterly does make you vulnerable to their loss. However we can get over it...perhaps. Love is very powerful. You have written some very emotive words.
Strikes home, since my beloved has sought greener pastures after only 5 years of wedded bliss...but counting the year of cohabitation and the year plus of courtship, I imagine that the itch was too great after 7 years.
I love how the image of her heart lying devastated brings up the image of a coat where the body has simply vanished, like a ghost, and it crumples into itself and onto the floor. Like our own soul has, now devastated, rumpled. Your few words create the image.
